Field Throw
The grown-up sibling of the Field Baby Blanket, in worsted yarn. Worked flat in one piece with a border to square it up.
- Finished size
- 48 × 60 in (122 × 152 cm)
- Yarn
- About 3,250 yd / 2,950 m of worsted weight (category 4) wool, wool blend or acrylic yarn. Buy 18 skeins of 200 yd (this includes 10% extra).

- US I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook, or the size that gives the gauge

- 12 sts and 7 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in double crochet. Swatch first and change hook size if needed: more stitches than this means go up a size, fewer means go down.
Notes
- Worked flat in one piece; the border is added at the end.
- The I-9 hook gives a softer fabric for a throw. If your gauge is looser than stated, go down to an H-8.
- Tall stitches that grow fast, with an open, drapey fabric. The ch 2 turning chain gives neater edges than ch 3.
Stitch pattern: Double crochet
- Pattern row: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, dc in each st across.
Throw
- Ch 144.
- Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across (141 sts).
- Row 2 onwards: Work the double crochet pattern row (see “Stitch pattern” above) on every row. Your stitch count stays the same.
- Continue until the blanket measures 59 in / 150 cm from the foundation chain. Do not fasten off.
Border
- Border rnd 1: Ch 1, turn the work to the side edge and sc evenly around all four sides: 1 sc in each st along the top and bottom, 2 sc in the side of each row along the sides, and 3 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
- Border rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in the centre sc of each corner. Join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off.
Finishing
- Weave in the ends. Wash and lay flat to dry.
