Fold Pillow Cover
Two squares in your choice of stitch, joined with single crochet around the pillow. Made 1 in smaller than the form so it looks plump.
- Finished size
- 15 × 15 in (38 × 38 cm) per panel, for a 16 in / 41 cm pillow form
- Yarn
- About 510 yd / 470 m of worsted weight (category 4) cotton, wool or acrylic yarn. Buy 3 skeins of 200 yd (this includes 10% extra).
- Hook
- US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook

- Square pillow form; Tapestry needle
- Gauge
- 13 sts and 10 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in half double crochet. Swatch first and change hook size if needed: more stitches than this means go up a size, fewer means go down.
Notes
- Each panel is 1 in / 2.5 cm smaller than the pillow form so the cover fits snugly.
- Soft with good drape, and quicker than single crochet.
Stitch pattern: Half double crochet
- Pattern row: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in each st across.
Panels (make 2)
- Ch 51.
- Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across (49 sts).
- Row 2 onwards: Work the half double crochet pattern row (see “Stitch pattern” above) on every row. Your stitch count stays the same.
- Continue until the panel measures 15 in / 38 cm from the foundation chain. Fasten off.
Joining
- Place the panels together with the wrong sides facing. Join the yarn at a corner. Working through both panels, sc evenly along three sides (1 sc in each st along the top and bottom, 3 sc in the sides of every 2 rows along the sides, 3 sc in each corner).
- Push the pillow form in, then sc along the fourth side to close it. Join with a sl st to the first sc and fasten off. Weave in the ends.
