Cast on, work one easy stitch pattern end to end, bind off. Choose garter, rib, seed, broken rib or basket texture.

- Yarn
- About 550 yd / 500 m of worsted weight (category 4) wool or wool blend yarn. Buy 4 skeins of 200 yd (this includes 10% extra).

- 18 sts and 36 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in garter stitch. Swatch first and change needle size if needed: more stitches than this means go up a size, fewer means go down.
Notes
- Worked flat from end to end.
- Reversible and lies flat. Every two rows make one ridge.
Stitch pattern: Garter stitch
- Every row: Knit.
Scarf
- Cast on 36 sts loosely.
- Work in garter stitch (see “Stitch pattern” above), repeating its rows.
- Continue until the scarf measures 66 in / 168 cm from the cast-on edge.
- Bind off loosely in pattern, knitting the knit stitches and purling the purl stitches as they face you.
Finishing
- Weave in the ends. Wet-block, easing the scarf to 8 in / 20 cm wide, and leave to dry.
