Loch Table Runner
A washable cotton runner that lies flat on the table, thanks to a garter border knitted in as you go.

- About 810 yd / 740 m of DK weight (category 3) cotton or linen blend yarn. Buy 4 skeins of 250 yd (this includes 10% extra).

- 22 sts and 38 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in seed stitch. Swatch first and change needle size if needed: more stitches than this means go up a size, fewer means go down.
Notes
- The first and last 5 stitches of every row, and 8 rows at each end, are garter stitch so the runner lies flat.
- A pebbly texture that looks the same on both sides and lies flat.
Stitch pattern: Seed stitch
Worked over a multiple of 2 sts plus 1.
- Every row: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.
Runner
- Cast on 77 sts.
- Rows 1–8: Knit (garter border).
- Every following row: K5, work the next row of the stitch pattern over the centre 67 sts, k5. Start with Row 1 of the stitch pattern on the first right-side row.
- Continue until the piece measures 47¼ in / 120 cm from the cast-on edge, ending after a wrong-side row.
- Next 8 rows: Knit (garter border).
- Bind off loosely knitwise.
Finishing
- Weave in the ends. Wet-block, pinning the runner flat to 14 × 48 in (36 × 122 cm).
