Messy Bun Beanie
Worked bottom-up with an opening at the top, finished around a hair tie so a bun or ponytail pokes through.

- About 170 yd (155 m) worsted.

Instructions
Brim
Join every round with a sl st (UK ss) to the first st; the ch at the start of each round does not count as a stitch.
Ch (example: 70). Join into a ring without twisting. Rnd 1: Ch 2, dc (UK tr) in each ch.
Rnds 2–4: Ch 2, *FPdc (UK FPtr) around next st, BPdc (UK BPtr) around next st; rep from *.
Body
Ch 1, hdc (UK htr) in each st around, until the hat measures 6 in (15 cm).
Top
Rnd 1: Ch 1, *hdc in next 3, hdc2tog (UK htr2tog); rep from *. (56)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, *hdc in next 2, hdc2tog; rep from *. (42)
Rnd 3: Hold the hair tie against the top edge. Ch 1, working over the hair tie, *sc2tog (UK dc2tog); rep from *. (21) Fasten off.
Finishing
- Weave in ends.
- Pull your bun through the hair-tie opening.
Designer’s notes
- Sizes that don’t divide by 10: enter your counts in the Increase & Decrease Evenly tool (Crochet, In the round) for each decrease round.
- For a ponytail hat, stop decreasing at 42 and work the hair-tie round there.
