Two-Colour Brick Stitch Scarf
Slipped stitches make two-colour bricks, and you only ever knit with one colour at a time.
- Yarn
- Worsted (4) in a dark (A) and a light (B).
- Needles
- US 8 (5 mm)

- Adult 7 × 60 in (18 × 152 cm)

- 20 sts and 40 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in brick stitch

- About 475 yd (435 m) worsted, about half in each colour.

Swatch 2 full repeats (16 rows). Slipped stitches pull the fabric in.
Instructions
Pattern
With A, cast on (example: 35 sts). Knit 4 rows.
Rows 1–2: With A, knit.
Row 3 (RS): With B, k1, *sl 1 purlwise wyib, k3; rep from * to last 2 sts, sl 1 wyib, k1.
Row 4 (WS): With B, k1, sl 1 wyif, *k3, sl 1 wyif; rep from * to last st, k1.
Rows 5–6: With A, knit.
Row 7 (RS): With B, k3, *sl 1 wyib, k3; rep from * to end.
Row 8 (WS): With B, k3, *sl 1 wyif, k3; rep from * to end.
Repeat rows 1–8 to the length you want. Carry the unused colour up the side.
Finish
With A, knit 4 rows. Bind off.
Finishing
- Weave in ends.
- Block.
Designer’s notes
- Wyib = with yarn in back; wyif = with yarn in front. Always slip purlwise so the stitch doesn’t twist.
- Swap in a variegated B for bricks that change colour.
