Eyelet Mesh Market Bag

A flat round base and a stretchy yarn-over mesh body. Holds a surprising amount of shopping.

Yarn: Worsted (4) cotton or cotton-linen.
Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) DPNs and 24 in (60 cm) circular
Sizes: Base 9 in (23 cm) across, body 14 in (36 cm) tall, straps 22 in (56 cm)
Example gauge: 18 sts and 26 rnds = 4 in (10 cm) in stockinette
Yarn needed: About 250 yd (230 m) cotton worsted.
Stitch multiple: 2 for the mesh (8 from the base)

Base
Cast on 8 sts on DPNs. Join.
Rnd 1: *K1, M1; rep from * (16). Rnd 2: Knit.
Inc rnd: *Knit to marker, M1, sm; rep from * with a marker every section (8 sections). Knit 1 rnd plain between each inc rnd.
Continue until you have 128 sts or the base measures 9 in across. Switch to the circular when you can.
Mesh
Rnd 1: *Yo, k2tog; rep from * to end. Rnd 2: Knit. Repeat these 2 rnds for the mesh rounds.
Top band
Purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd, 4 times (garter band). Bind off.
Straps (make 2)
Cast on 8 sts. Knit every row to 22 in. Bind off.

Counter 1: base increase rounds (goal 15). Counter 2: mesh rounds.
