Materials

  • Worsted (4) yarn (see yarn needed)
  • US 7 (4.5 mm) straight needles
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge swatch

Rib swatch, measured relaxed.

Instructions

  1. Mitts (make 2)

Cast on (example: 42 sts), leaving a 20 in tail for seaming.

    Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from *. Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from *.

Repeat to 8 in (20 cm). Bind off in rib, leaving a 20 in tail.

Finishing

  • Fold each rectangle in half lengthwise, RS out. With the cast-on tail, mattress stitch the seam up from the cuff for 4.5 in (11 cm).
  • Leave 1.75 in (4.5 cm) open for the thumb. With the bind-off tail, seam down from the top edge to the gap.
  • Weave in ends.

Designer’s notes

  • Longer cuffs: add 2 in before the thumb gap and 2 in to the total length.
  • Seam through the knit columns so the seam disappears into the rib.
