Twist-Front Headband
A seed stitch strip finished with a twist at the front. Covers the ears and uses under one skein.
- Yarn
- Worsted (4) wool or alpaca.
- Needles
- US 8 (5 mm)
- Sizes
- Child to adult large (hat chart head sizes). Example: adult M, head 22 in.
- Example gauge
- 18 sts and 32 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in seed stitch
- Yarn needed
- About 70 yd (65 m) worsted.

Instructions
Strip
Cast on (example: 19). Every row: K1, *p1, k1; rep from *. Work to the length (example: 19.8 in / 158 rows). Bind off in pattern, leaving a 12 in tail.
Finishing
- Lay the strip flat and bring the ends together. Fold each end in half lengthwise, and slot one fold inside the other so they interlock.
- Seam through all four layers with the tail. Turn so the seam sits inside and the twist faces front.
- Weave in ends.
Designer’s notes
- Wider band (5 in) for more ear cover: 23 sts.
- Seed stitch doesn’t curl, so no border is needed.
