Rope Cable Panel Throw
Rope cables separated by seed stitch columns. An heirloom look built from one 8-row repeat.
- Yarn
- Worsted (4) or Aran (4) smooth wool in a light colour so the cables read.
- Needles
- US 8 (5 mm) 40 in (100 cm) circular; cable needle
- Sizes
- Throw 50 × 60 in (127 × 152 cm)
- Example gauge
- 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in the cable pattern, after blocking
- Yarn needed
- About 3,400 yd (3,100 m) worsted: cables use about 25% more yarn. Choose “Cables or dense texture”.
- Stitch multiple
- 18 + 10, plus 3 garter stitches each side

Gauge swatch
Cast on 34 sts (1 repeat + 10 + 6 border) and work 3 repeats of rows 1–8. Cables pull in, so you must swatch in pattern.
Instructions
Border
Cast on (example: 250 sts). Knit 8 rows.
Pattern
C6F: slip 3 sts to cable needle, hold in front, k3, k3 from cable needle.
Row 1 (RS): K3, *p2, k6, p2, (k1, p1) × 4; rep from * to last 13 sts, p2, k6, p2, k3.
Row 2 (WS): K3, *k2, p6, k2, (p1, k1) × 4; rep from * to last 13 sts, k2, p6, k2, k3.
Row 3 (RS): K3, *p2, C6F, p2, (k1, p1) × 4; rep from * to last 13 sts, p2, C6F, p2, k3.
Row 4: Work as row 2.
Rows 5 and 7: Work as row 1. Rows 6 and 8: Work as row 2.
Repeat rows 1–8 until the throw measures 59 in (150 cm), ending after row 4 or 8.
Border
Knit 7 rows. Bind off on the WS, working k2tog twice over each cable so the top edge doesn't flare.
Finishing
- Weave in ends.
- Wet block, pinning the width out to size.
Designer’s notes
- Swap C6F for C6B on every other cable for mirrored ropes.
- If your swatch gauge differs, re-run the Cast-On Calculator with your number: the multiple stays 18 + 10.
