Reversible 2×2 Rib Scarf
A long rib scarf that looks the same on both sides and never curls.
- Yarn
- Worsted (4); about 3 skeins for the long size.
- Needles
- US 8 (5 mm)

- Long 8 × 72 in (20 × 183 cm); adult 7 × 60 in (18 × 152 cm)

- 24 sts and 26 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in 2×2 rib, relaxed
- Yarn needed
- About 600 yd (550 m) worsted for the long size (rib uses about 15% more).

- 4 + 2

Gauge swatch
Rib swatch, measured without stretching.
Instructions
Rib
Cast on (example: 46 sts).
Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.
Repeat rows 1–2 to the length you want.
Bind off
Bind off in rib, loosely.
Finishing
- Weave ends into the purl columns.
- Don’t block flat, or the rib loses its spring. Steam lightly if needed.
Designer’s notes
- Starting and ending each row with k2 gives a firm edge.
- For a 1×1 rib version, use a multiple of 2 and expect about 10% narrower fabric.
