Round Pet Bed
A flat hdc base and a rim that folds over into a stuffed bolster. Machine-washable if you pick the right yarn.

Work 5 rounds of the base; it should lie flat and be about 5 in across.
Instructions
Base
Join every round with a sl st (UK ss) to the first st; the ch at the start of each round does not count as a stitch.
Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8 hdc (UK htr). Rnd n: Ch 1, *hdc in next (n − 2), 2 hdc in next; rep from * around (8 times in all). (8 × n)
Continue to the base count (example: rnd 22, 176 sts).
Rim
Next rnd: Ch 1, hdc in back loop only of each st.
Hdc around for 10 rounds (5 in).
Finishing
- Fold the rim outward and down so its top edge meets the back-loop round. Sew the edge to the base along the front loops left from that round, stuffing firmly as you go.
- Weave in ends.
Designer’s notes
- Flat-circle rule: increases per round ≈ 6.28 × (sts per in ÷ rows per in). With typical gauges that comes to about 6 for sc (UK dc), 8 for hdc and 12 for dc (UK tr). If your circle ruffles, increase less often; if it cups, more often.
- Dog-size (30 in): 30 base rounds, 240 sts, 12 rim rounds.
