T-Shirt Yarn Round Basket
Super bulky T-shirt yarn makes a sturdy basket in an evening. A back-loop round turns the base into walls.

Work the first 4 rounds; they should lie flat.
Instructions
Base
Work a flat sc (UK dc) circle in a spiral: 6 sc in a magic ring, then +6 each round to your base count (example: 48).
Walls
Next rnd: Sc in back loop only of each st. Then sc in each st for the wall rounds, stopping 3 rounds short.
Handles
Handle rnd: *Sc in next 18, ch 6, sk (UK miss) 6; rep from * once more.
Next rnd: Sc in each sc and 6 sc in each ch-6 sp.
Last rnd: Reverse sc (crab stitch) around. Fasten off.
Finishing
- Weave in ends firmly (T-shirt yarn is slippery; knot it inside).
- Shape by hand.
Designer’s notes
- Flat-circle rule: increases per round ≈ 6.28 × (sts per in ÷ rows per in). With typical gauges that comes to about 6 for sc, 8 for hdc (UK htr) and 12 for dc (UK tr). If your circle ruffles, increase less often; if it cups, more often.
- Stiffer basket: hold a strand of cotton cord along with the T-shirt yarn.
