Alpine Stitch Throw
Offset front post stitches pop out of a sc and dc ground. Rich texture from a simple 4-row repeat.

Instructions
Set up
Chain (example: 163). Row 1 (WS): Sc (UK dc) in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (162).
Row 2 (RS): Ch 2, turn. Dc (UK tr) in each st across.
Alpine pattern
Row 3 (WS): Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
Row 4 (RS): Ch 2, turn. Dc in first st, *FPdc (UK FPtr) around the dc 2 rows below the next st, dc in next st; rep from * to last st, dc in last st.
Row 5 (WS): Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
Row 6 (RS): Ch 2, turn. Dc in first 2 sts, *FPdc around the st 2 rows below the next st, dc in next st; rep from * to last 2 sts, FPdc around the st 2 rows below the next st, dc in last st.
Repeat rows 3–6. Always skip the sc behind each FPdc.
Edge
End after a row 4 or 6. Work 2 rounds of sc around, 3 sc in corners.
Finishing
- Weave in ends.
- Steam lightly.
Designer’s notes
- Row 6 FPdcs sit between the row 4 FPdcs, making the alpine “peaks”.
- Try it as a scarf: 7 in × 3.25 ≈ 22 sts.
