Granny Hexagon Blanket
Honeycomb-style hexagons joined in offset rows. A good use for scraps, and every hexagon is a quick make.

- About 2,900 yd (2,650 m) worsted.

Make one hexagon and measure between opposite flat sides.
Instructions
Hexagon
Rnd 1: Magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as dc (UK tr)), 2 dc in ring, ch 1, *3 dc in ring, ch 1; rep from * 4 more times. Sl st (UK ss) to top of ch-3. (6 clusters)
Rnd 2: Sl st to first ch-1 sp. Ch 3 (counts as dc), (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp; rep from * 4 more times. Sl st to join.
Rnd 3 and on: Sl st to the corner sp. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in corner, *3 dc in each gap between clusters along the side, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next corner; rep from * around. Join.
Make 5 rounds (or to your size). Fasten off.
Join
Arrange in rows with points up: 8, 7, 8, 7… Offset rows nest into the gaps. Whipstitch or sc (UK dc) the sides together through back loops.
Edge
Leave the edges scalloped and work 2 rounds of sc around, 2 sc in outer points and sc2tog (UK dc2tog) at inner corners.
Finishing
- Weave in ends as you go.
- Block.
Designer’s notes
- Straight edges: fill the gaps at the sides with half hexagons (rounds 1–5 worked back and forth across half the ring).
- Join-as-you-go on round 5 saves hours of sewing.
