Waffle Stitch Throw
Front post stitches build a deep, squishy grid. Warm and heavy, and very satisfying to work.

- Worsted (4) in one colour: waffle texture shows best in solids.

- I-9 (5.5 mm)

- Throw 50 × 60 in (127 × 152 cm)

- 13 sts and 9 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in waffle pattern
- Yarn needed
- About 4,700 yd (4,300 m) worsted: waffle uses about 40% more than plain dc. Pick “Cables or dense texture” and add 15%.

Gauge swatch
Ch 26, work 12 rows in pattern (24 sts).
Instructions
Foundation
Ch (sts + 2) (example: 164). Row 1: Dc (UK tr) in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across (162).
Waffle
Row 2: Ch 2, turn. Dc in first st, *FPdc (UK FPtr) around next st, dc in next 2 sts; rep from * to last 2 sts, FPdc around next st, dc in last st.
Row 3: Ch 2, turn. Dc in first st, *dc in next st, FPdc around next 2 sts; rep from * to last 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts.
Repeat rows 2–3. In row 3 you FPdc around the dc of row 2 and dc into its post stitches; that’s what makes the grid.
Edge
Finish with a row 2. Work 1 round of sc (UK dc) around the whole blanket, 3 sc in corners.
Finishing
- Weave in ends.
- Don’t press; steam lightly so the texture stays raised.
Designer’s notes
- Post stitches eat yarn. Buy an extra skein beyond the calculator figure.
- Waffle makes great dishcloths too: 24 sts in cotton.
